Java

The Java language is very verbose and ugly, however the Java VM incorporates compiler technology from Self and Strongtalk, and features state of the art concurrent GC.

In addition to the Java language itself, the JVM is capable of hosting other JVM languages.

The JVM itself is a stack machine with registers. It does not understand the Java language directly, but understands its compilation target, Java bytecode, which is a stack-based concatenative assembly language.
